Tomcat, JMX and working at the local library
When working within a restricted IP network -- like those found at libraries, cafes, and other hot-spots -- make sure you run services on 127.0.0.1 and not "localhost". This will ensure that all network services you are working with -- and, in my case, developing for -- do not need to access the restricted network.
